Upon your arrival in Frankfurt

Taxis are the most convenient way to get to the city centre from the airport as it takes approximately 20 minutes. Another option is to use the train or S-Bahn (light rail). The ICE train will transport you directly to Frankfurt’s Hauptbahnhof (main railway station) in around 12 minutes, while the S8 and S9 trains, travelling in the direction of Offenbach or Hanau, arrive in around 16 minutes.

A brief introduction to Frankfurt

Brimming with incredible architecture, fascinating museums, and lush natural beauty, Frankfurt is a captivating modern metropolis with echoes of its historical past.

Begin your journey by visiting the Römer, which has withstood the testament of time by being Frankfurt’s city hall for over 600 years. While here, be sure to see the three-peaked façade and medieval timber houses that provide a gorgeous view of the quaint town square.

Frankfurt is home to an intriguing range of museums, with some of the most popular being the Schirn Kunsthalle, Historisches Museum, and Archäologischer Garten. We also recommend going to the 16th century Goethe House museum as it is the birthplace and former home of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and the location where he wrote some of his most famous novels.

Nature lovers should pay a visit to the Taunus mountain range, which is situated north of the city, as it is awash with dense forests and mountain trails. Venture on a hike on the high trails around Feldberg or explore Saalburg to learn more about the Roman history of the region. Alternatively, you can visit the Kubacher Kristallhöhle, a 30-metre high cave full of crystals and surrounded by limestone that dates back 350 million years.

Those interested in taking a day trip can head to Heidelberg, a scenic town located an hour away from Frankfurt. While there, take the funicular up to Heidelberg Castle, which is home to the world’s largest wine barrel - the Heidelberg Tun - and offers spectacular views of the Neckar River and the town below.
