A brief introduction to Beijing

A fascinating blend of ancient temples and modern skyscrapers, Beijing is a city renowned for its majestic architecture, delicious food, and numerous UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Several of Beijing’s UNESCO sites date back to the 15th century (or earlier), and each offers fascinating insights into the country’s history and culture. Be sure to visit The Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, Ming Tombs, Grand Canal, and the Great Wall of China. The Great Wall is on the outskirts of the city - about a two hour drive away. You can either take a taxi yourself, or book a tour through your hotel.

While in the city, pick up an authentic travel souvenir at the historical pedestrianised Qianmen Street – home to a combination of culture, food, shopping and entertainment. Nearby, you will find many of the city’s top restaurants serving local favourites such as roasted duck, Mongolian hotpot, and soybean cake.

Between Beijing’s many temples and monuments, you’ll also find some of the city’s most impressive futuristic architecture. A few of the most renowned buildings include the Wangjing SOHO, the Capital Museum Building, CCTV Headquarters, and the National Centre for the Performing Arts.
