    Cathay membership FAQ

What is the difference between Status Points and Asia Miles?

Status Points dictate your current standing within the Cathay membership programme, directly influencing your membership tier and associated privileges. These points revert to zero at the beginning of every new Cathay membership year following a renewal, an upgrade, or a downgrade. Conversely, Asia Miles functions as a reward currency used to claim flights and everyday lifestyle rewards, and remains active for a period of three years. Status Points help you elevate between tiers, whereas Asia Miles empowers you to redeem further flight and retail rewards.

What do Cathay membership tiers mean?

The different Cathay membership categories—Green, Silver, Gold, and Diamond—each tier delivers degrees of recognition and privileges, the more you journey with us.

Green members receive foundational Cathay membership benefits, which feature access to promotions and priority online check-in 48 hours prior to departure. Green members can secure seats with additional legroom with Asia Miles, subject to seat availability, and enjoy two days of complimentary access to PressReader with every flight booking. Silver members retain all the benefits of the Green tier, along with priority check-in at Business class counters, entry to designated Business class lounges, and priority baggage handling. Silver membership also offers enhanced earnings of Asia Miles when you make purchases or dine at our restaurant partners.

Gold members can travel with one additional piece of checked luggage and can enjoy guaranteed Economy seating on Cathay Pacific flights. Gold members also receive a pair of complimentary Business class lounge invitations, upgrade opportunities, paired with higher accumulation of Asia Miles.

Diamond members can enjoy First class check-in services, access to all First class and Business class lounges, and the privilege of inviting companions. Diamond members also benefit from priority baggage handling and exclusive promotions at partner hotels and dining venues.

You can read further information regarding Status Points and the privileges of every category here .

During the booking process and when you manage your booking online, you can see the exact number of Status Points and Asia Miles your ticket will earn based on the airline, cabin, fare type, and distance travelled.

If your ticket is eligible, Status Points will be automatically credited to your account. If you fly with one of our partner airlines, you can still earn Status Points towards your Cathay membership, subject to fare and cabin eligibility.
