Those looking to take a day trip have plenty of destinations to choose from, including Suzhou. Less than 30 minutes away from Shanghai by high-speed train, the picturesque city known as the ‘Venice of the East’ offers plenty of incredible experiences. While here, be sure to explore the scenic waterways in the Old Town area on foot or by gondola. The city is also home to over 60 classical Chinese gardens that recreate breathtaking natural landscapes. Among the most notable is the Humble Administrator’s Garden as it dates back to the Ming Dynasty and has beautiful pavilions right beside tranquil ponds.
