    Travel tips

Passengers arriving at Narita International Airport and Haneda Airport will find a plethora of facilities and amenities to use before continuing their journey into the city centre. Indulge in an extensive selection of culinary delights at the diverse range of restaurants or enjoy some light shopping at the boutique stores situated within the airport. Baggage storage, tourist information booths, ATMs, and currency exchange services are also available, along with specific services tailored to meet the needs of travellers who require special assistance.

    Choosing your airport in Tokyo

If you plan to arrive or depart from Tokyo in the early hours, Haneda Airport may present a more convenient option. Located only about 30 minutes from downtown Tokyo, Haneda simplifies travel for those scheduled for early flights or

arriving late at night. Visitors staying in central Tokyo will appreciate the reduced travel time, allowing for more restful sleep before their journey.

For those visiting during peak seasons, particularly in Spring and Autumn, Narita Airport can provide a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere upon arrival or departure. During these busy periods, such as cherry blossom season in April or the stunning autumn foliage in November, Haneda Airport tends to attract larger crowds. As a result, visitors arriving at Narita may find shorter lines at check-in, security, and immigration, creating a more pleasant travel experience.

Taxis are the most convenient way to travel from Narita International Airport, located 70 km northeast of the city, to the city centre, taking approximately 40 minutes. Other viable options include choosing one of the many trains travelling on the Keisei Narita Sky Access line, which offers a scenic 1-hour ride from the airport to Nihonbashi station in the central Chuo City district. For travellers who prefer a quicker public transport option, the Skyliner service is also available and can take you to central Tokyo in as quickly as 45 minutes.

To get to the city centre from Haneda Airport, the quickest method is by taxi, which takes just 15 minutes. The Keikyū Airport Line trains are also available at all airport terminals and take about 40 minutes to reach the heart of the city. There are also local buses that can take you to various areas in and around the city centre in about 20 minutes.

The Tokyo Skytree is an essential Tokyo landmark, serving as a colossal broadcasting and observation tower, and the perfect launchpad for exploring the city. This architectural marvel offers visitors two distinct, breathtaking observation experiences. Start your visit at the lower Tembo Deck, located at an impressive 350 metres. This deck provides a sprawling, 360-degree panoramic view that allows travellers to fully appreciate the immense scale of the city, from the dense urban sprawl to the distant horizons. For the ultimate elevated adventure, travellers can pay an additional fee to ascend to the Tembo Galleria. Rather than a traditional viewing platform, this upper section is a unique, enclosed, sloping skywalk that seamlessly circles the tower's exterior. The continuous climb along the Galleria offers a dynamic change in perspective, making the journey itself a memorable part of the visit. The skywalk culminates at Sorakara Point, the tower's highest publicly accessible spot, reaching a staggering 451.2 meters. From this lofty perch, the city below transforms into a stunning mosaic of buildings, streets, and cars, offering a truly unforgettable view that solidifies the Tokyo Skytree as a must-visit destination.

The Sakurai Japanese Tea Experience offers an immersive exploration of traditional Japanese tea culture. This dedicated tea house is the perfect spot for those interested in local customs, providing a deep dive into the art of tea. Travellers can choose from a variety of engaging experiences, including guided tastings of premium Japanese teas like matcha and hojicha. Knowledgeable staff lead these sessions, sharing valuable insights into the history and specific preparation techniques. For a more hands-on approach, visitors can participate in workshops to master the meticulous skills of brewing and serving tea. The tea house itself provides a relaxing, cosy environment, inviting travellers to fully savour their tea alongside delicious seasonal Japanese sweets.

If you’re travelling with children, Tokyo Disneyland offers a truly magical and memorable vacation experience, blending classic Disney charm with unparalleled Japanese hospitality. Operating daily, the park is organised into popular themed areas, including Fantasyland, Adventureland, and Tomorrowland. Visitors to each zone can enjoy engaging shows, thrilling rides, and opportunities to meet beloved Disney characters. Signature attractions include the visually stunning, trackless ride "Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast," the inventive trackless dark ride "Pooh’s Hunny Hunt," the exhilarating log-flume "Splash Mountain," and the classic space simulator "Star Tours: The Adventures Continue." In addition to its standard offerings, the park hosts unique seasonal events, such as "Disney Pal-Palooza," and features the spectacular new evening show, "Reach for the Stars," which incorporates impressive fireworks and projections.

Cathay Holidays brings the convenience of finding the perfect hotels for your stay. The Peninsula Tokyo provides a sophisticated experience in central Tokyo, expertly combining contemporary luxury with traditional Japanese service. The hotel's exquisitely designed rooms boast stunning views of the city skyline and the Imperial Palace. Travellers can enjoy a lavish spa, a modern fitness centre, and excellent dining options offering both international and authentic Japanese cuisine. Its prime location offers effortless access to the upscale Ginza shopping district, the tranquil Hibiya Park, and the culturally significant Imperial Palace with its beautiful gardens. Alternatively, Hotel Gracery Shinjuku offers a memorable and convenient stay near Shinjuku with stylish, comfortable accommodations and complimentary Wi-Fi, located near the former Shinjuku KOMA Theater. A unique feature is the iconic Godzilla statue on the terrace, which is ideal for photos. The hotel's prime location provides easy access to the vibrant surroundings, including the bustling Kabukicho area for nightlife, the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden for a peaceful escape, and the nearby Kabuki-za Theatre for traditional Kabuki performances. Book your stay today and discover a wondrous world of rewards, including special accommodation, room upgrades, and access to lounge facilities. You will also be able to earn Asia Miles when you book a holiday package or a  hotel .

Tokyo entices food enthusiasts with its wide selection of restaurants, where culinary traditions from across the world converge to create an exquisite gastronomic experience. Ginza Hachigou offers a truly unique ramen experience in Tokyo's bustling Ginza district. This premier restaurant is renowned for its distinctive ramen, which features a clear, golden, rich, and intensely flavourful soup instead of a traditional broth. The soup base is meticulously crafted from a blend of duck, chicken, scallops, and shiitake mushrooms, designed to highlight the natural tastes of each ingredient. To pair with the soup, the menu includes the popular Ajitama Chuka Soba, which is served with expertly cooked noodles and a perfectly seasoned boiled egg. Another decadent option is the Chashu Chuka Soba, a bowl topped with tender roasted pork. For a special treat, the limited-edition Ravioli Gourmandise Chuka Soba is also offered, blending the soul of ramen with exquisite ravioli. For an authentic taste of Edomae Sushi in Tokyo, Ryoheisushi comes highly recommended. This restaurant truly captures the essence of Tokyo's coastline by focusing on the seasonal catch. Ryoheisushi offers both lunch and dinner, with various courses available. A typical course includes an appetiser, 8 to 10 pieces of expertly hand-crafted sushi, makimono (rolled sushi), and dessert. For those seeking a deeper culinary exploration, the Omakase Course is an excellent choice, featuring a carefully curated selection of seasonal dishes that highlight the chef's expertise. Diners consistently praise the Maguro (tuna) and Uni (sea urchin) for their rich flavours and melt-in-your-mouth texture. Another notable dish is the Ankimo (monkfish liver), which is served with ponzu sauce, showcasing the chef's delicate touch. To complete the meal, Ryoheisushi provides a selection of premium sake and other Japanese beverages, perfectly complementing the dining experience.
