A brief introduction to Shanghai

One of China’s more cosmopolitan cities, Shanghai is brimming with futuristic buildings and glitzy retail spaces, and is also abundant with ancient culture and architectural history.

Start your journey with a trip to the Bund, Shanghai’s famous waterfront area. Here, you can experience the city’s amazing skyline, highlighted by the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, the Shanghai Tower, and the Shanghai World Financial Center. A short walk away in the Old City, you can find ancient temples such as the City God Temple of Shanghai, and its adjoining Yu Garden. Built almost 500 years ago during the Ming Dynasty, this iconic park hosts the Exquisite Jade Rock, a 3.3 metre high boulder said to be a gift for the Huizong Emperor in the 1100s. We also recommend visiting the French Concession, a historical neighbourhood with tree-lined streets, cozy cafes, and artsy boutiques.

Further outside the city, you can find the ancient town of Zhujiajiao, which is known for its unique architecture and bridges. It is also the perfect place to sample some of Shanghai’s renowned dishes such as “xiaolongbao” (soup dumplings) and steamed crab.
