The world’s largest city, Tokyo is an unforgettable travel destination that is awash with rich ancient culture, incredible dining opportunities, and verdant parks.
Start your trip with a visit to one of Tokyo’s many vibrant neighbourhoods, namely Akihabara, Harajuku, and Shinjuku. These districts are all centrally-located, boast colourful billboards and fun-filled gaming arcades, and are the perfect places to indulge in the city’s unique culture and fashion trends.
To immerse yourself in the historical and cultural side of Tokyo, head to the northern district of Yanesen to discover many of the city’s ancient temples and shrines. Some of the most celebrated ones include the Nezu Shrine, Meiji Jingu, and 1,300-year-old Senso-ji.
To enjoy some rest and relaxation, be sure to visit one of the many lush gardens dotted throughout the city. Ueno Onshi Park, Yoyogi Park, and Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden are among the most popular, especially during the change of seasons when leaves turn bright pink in spring and rustic orange in autumn.
The city also serves as a great starting point for a day trip, with Hakone being one of the more picturesque destinations close by. Easily reached in around 90 minutes by train, the mountainous town is famous for its numerous hot springs and captivating culture. While here, we recommend exploring historic Odawara Castle, which was originally built in the 15th century, and the nearby ninja and samurai museums. Hakone is also well known for offering jaw-dropping views of Mount Fuji, making it the perfect spot to take photos of the world renowned volcano.

Those looking to enjoy a relaxing coffee break should visit Sidewalk Stand, which brews flavourful espressos that pair perfectly with the hot sandwiches available. We also recommend trying all the variations of ramen that the Japanese capital has to offer, with two of the local favourites being ‘shoyu’ (soy sauce) ramen and ‘miso’ (fermented soybean paste) ramen.
