Mangroves are native to the tropics, and many communities in Southeast Asia depend on mangroves for food, protection, and income. Conservation of mangrove forests can support the local communities and protect their livelihoods.
Mangrove forests are biodiversity hotspots that provide nesting and breeding grounds for fish, shellfish, and migratory birds.
The dense root network of mangroves help to filter and trap sediments, and play a pivotal role in reducing coastal erosion and providing a natural barrier against floods and storm surges.

The mangrove tree planting activity in the Philippines was held in Carcar City, Cebu, where around 50 participants gathered to plant 2,000 mangrove trees. We are grateful to our employee volunteers, cargo & trade partners and ground handling agents who enthusiastically joined the 2-hour early morning drive to Carcar and spent a few hours wading through the waters to plant seedlings. A big thank you to our partner, Philippines Business for Social Progress (PBSP), for their support and guidance in this meaningful initiative.
We are proud to plant 4,000 mangrove trees at the Bangpu Nature Education Centre in Samut Prakan. This year is extra special as half of the trees were generously provided by our partner, KTC (Krungthai Card Public Company Limited) who joined our efforts in Thailand for the first time. 10 underprivileged children were also invited to participate, inspiring collective action and nurturing a sustainable mindset through hands-on tree planting in the mangrove forest.
We are proud to plant 1,000 mangrove trees in Pramuka Island, Seribu Islands. Over 50 participants including our trade, corporate partners, and our team heartily joined forces with the Society of Renewable Energy (SRE) to plant mangrove trees. Travelling by boat to reach the outer islands of Indonesia, we are delighted to protect the beach with the newly-planted mangrove trees.
Volunteers from our employees, trade and cargo partners gathered to plant 1,300 mangrove trees in the Trapeang Sangkae Community. The community, located 150km from the capital city of Phnom Penh, is a protected area for the conservation of fishery and mangrove forest. We would like to thank all our volunteers for contributing their time and effort for this special cause.
