Commissioned for the lounge entrance, Chui Pui Chee’s calligraphic work renders the characters “翱翔” in shimmering ink. Translated as “soaring” in English, the piece captures Cathay’s transcendent Move Beyond spirit.
Inspired by 19th-century cartography, World Cloud by Beijing-based artist Xu Lei is a map-like painting of towering mountains beneath pink and blue clouds rendered in different cultural styles. This work is the centrepiece of one of the enclosed spaces in our lounge.
Artist and architect William Lim’s boarding pass drawings are displayed as a set in the main lounge area. Depicting scenic tourist spots and views from aircraft windows, these quickly sketched drawings freeze moments from Lim’s travels.
Beijing-based artist Zhang Yanzi has created a pair of ink-on-paper works, collectively titled The Genetic Lottery No. 1. Consisting of rows of coloured dots inspired by the variation of human irises, the works advocate for equality in spite of visible differences.
Photographer William Furniss is fascinated with bodies of water, capturing the ways that light dances on its surface. In Water Reflections, blue-green waves glint in a way that evokes molten metal.
